Accommodations: Most of the air-conditioned rooms and suites showcase 18-foot ceilings with exposed beams and rafters, cool tile floors, and dark tropical hardwoods. Accommodations have ceiling fans, a king-size bed or 2 double beds, a hammock, cable TV, a mini-bar, a safety box, bathrobes, and slippers. Superior Rooms have a terrace facing the garden, and the Junior Suites have a separate bedroom, a large terrace with a plunge pool, and a garden view. One of the Superior Rooms has a bath built around a ceiba tree! The Presidential Suite has a big bedroom and a garden with a private swimming pool. You also can stay in a secluded villa, a Mayan-style hut with a terrace, plunge pool, and private garden. The villas are especially favored for their thatched roofs and rope-suspended beds.

Dining & Entertainment: Dine overlooking the gardens at San Jose, with a menu that's a blend of regional and international cuisines. Many ingredients used are organic, and coastal villages supply the fresh fish. The restaurant is situated within an old factory building. Make arrangements for a special romantic dinner set in a secluded spot anywhere on the hotel grounds. A musical trio provides entertainment on request. The hotel provides room service, as well. The lounge bar will take your order and deliver your drinks to wherever you are at the hotel.

Recreation: The outdoor swimming pool is set among tropical flora, and hammocks are strung right over the water. Take a mountain bike ride through the country, or go horseback riding and hiking. You'll feel sublimely calm after a treatment at the spa, which follows a "high-touch, low-tech" philosophy to restore health, energy, and beauty. Couples' massages are provided in guest rooms, and there are also board games and a library.
